C4 transmission problems.?

i have a 77 ford f100,with a c4 transmission.i had to drop the to fix it up a little.well i am trying to put it in but everytime i tighten all the housing to motor bolts down to torque specs,it keeps binding up and i cant turn the motor.i kow i cant turn the motor by hand,the starter for it aint going to turn it.i know the pilot on the converter is linning up on the crank right,but it is still binding up.what can i do to stop it from binding it up.i put washers on the housing to motor bolts to space it out a little becuz the original dust plate was worped.so could neone plz help me out on what i can do.pain in my but.
